 Job Description:

  

SharePoint Solutions Architect/Engineer is responsible with all aspects of MOSS 2010 design, architect, installation, administration, configuration, maintaining and troubleshooting the Northern Trust SharePoint environment

The SharePoint Solutions Architect will support all the components of the SharePoint environment including typical system administrative activities such as server administration tasks, monitoring site performance and server event logs, ensuring disaster recovery plan, creation of user training, back-up, restore, performance analysis, and issue resolution. 

The Solutions Architect will also assist in the design architecture, availability, reliability, and security of SharePoint environments.

 

Additional Responsibilities

 

Technical advisor to business on what SharePoint can offer out of box – diagnose and map business requirements.

Recommend project approaches and submit time and cost estimates.

Lead, plan and manage business / solution design, configuration and implementation.

Document what constitutes custom development.

Document custom development systems development lifecycle.

Document SharePoint implementation.

Architect Enterprise Search capability.

Design farm with licensing restrictions and future upgrades in mind.

Document production data conversion plans, identify risk and create mitigation solutions

 

Experience and Education:

  • Provides SME knowledge on installation and configuration of SharePoint Servers
  • Implementation and support of Web Front End, Database, and application and search servers
  • Administer, maintain and manage the SharePoint farms and databases
  • Collaborate with infrastructure and DBA groups on back-up and disaster recovery tasks
  • Perform SharePoint security audits and manage security for all sites and sub sites
  • Accountable for the SharePoint (internal and external) Infrastructure
  • Accountable for following the project management/ lifecycle development processes and procedures
  • Provides leadership and expert knowledge in solving complex technical and business issues in regards to SharePoint
  • Participates in conducting project assessments as it relates to SharePoint
  • Assist with server builds and troubleshooting of operating system problems
  • Facilitates knowledge sharing across the organization
  • Strong understanding of SharePoint 2010 Farm Architectures
  • Undergraduate or Graduate degree preferred in any of the following disciplines: Engineering, Computer Science, MIS or Other Technology Fields

 

Experience Required:

 

  • Comprehensive  understanding of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007/2010
  • Complete understanding of Office 2010, OCS and Exchange Server
  • Extensive knowledge of SharePoint Central Administration, Services, IIS, Web Parts, and site collection settings
  • Experience with load balanced MOSS server set-up and database servers
  • Must be familiar with MOSS forms-based authentication functionality and configuration for Extranet access to the platform
  • Experience with security set-up in a MOSS environment
  • Experience with configuring SharePoint Search and Federated Search
  • Ability to administer SharePoint 2010 to include installing and configuring large web farm topology
  • Ability to deploy SharePoint Solutions, Web Parts, and ApplicationsDemonstrateability maintaining SQL database solutions
  • Exposure to Business Continuity and/or Disaster Recovery planning, and ITIL is a plus
  • Project Management skills including Work-planning, Estimating, Meeting Facilitation, Issue Resolution and proficiency with MS Project and MS Office Suite.
  • Experience with process and quality management.
  • Ability to manage detailed analysis of business problems and technical environments
  • Ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
  • A minimum of 3 years experience directly related to design and architecting mult-farm SharePoint environments and administrating complex (internal and external) SharePoint SharePoint server farms
  •  
  • Need to stay very current with SharePoint industry best practices and trends at all times.
  • You need a strong understanding of heterogeneous systems environment sufficient enough to recommend best practices for integration with SharePoint
  • You need to communicate daily with Project Managers, Architects and other engineers on implementation and support issues, as well as on future of the platform needs.
  • The ability to communicate well is essential as you are effectively guiding the SharePoint teams.
  • Must have strong leadership skills and mentor and empower your support teams.
  • You will communicate with top management so need to be professional and articulate at all times.

  • MCTS 70-631 : Configuring Office SharePoint Server 2010.
  • MCTS 70-630 : Configuring Windows SharePoint Foundation
  • STSADM.
  • SQL Server 2005, 2008.
  • IIS 6 / 7.
  • Active Directory
  • Windows Server 2003 / 2008.
  • DNS / WINS (Name resolution).
  • TCP / IP.
  • SQL Server 2005 Advanced Administration.
  • Basic Firewall rules and Proxy.
  • IT Infrastructure Design.
  • Hardware Acquisition.
  • Performance Monitoring.
